COUNSELLING WITH SATU

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, life’s storms can become overwhelming. Counselling brings awareness, acceptance, and an outside perspective, which can change how you experience your life.

I encourage new perceptions and skills to help you find clarity—in a space where you can feel safe, accepted, and inspired. Because of the work I have done around my own challenges and those of my clients, I can follow wherever you need to go in your exploration.

What To Expect from a Counselling Session

We will identify ineffective beliefs and behaviours.

I will help you uncover the deeply-buried beliefs and “stories” that you tell yourself and that drive your patterns of behaviour.

I may ask you questions about your family history and look at how family patterns relate to your current situation.

We will target thinking, feeling, and doing.

I may invite—but will never force—you to take emotional risks or to reveal thoughts, feelings, and experiences that you might not normally share.

We will have new experiences.

Rather than simply talking through an issue, I might invite you to participate in an exercise designed to encourage a new experience or approach to the issue at hand.

Therapies that Inform My Approach
Person-Centred Therapy A therapy that seeks to facilitate a client’s innate desire for growth and fulfillment through acceptance (unconditional positive regard), therapist congruence/genuineness, and empathic understanding   Transpersonal Philosophy A non-religious spiritual paradigm based on the belief that human beings are more than their personal histories and life experiences and as such have tremendous potential for growth.   Family Systems Theory A theory of human behaviour that views the family as an emotional unit and the individual as a part of this unit. According to this theory, everyone is connected—whether they want to be or not—making the family system greater than the sum of its parts/members. Viewing individuals through this lens reveals the bigger picture of their struggles, normalizes their experiences, and identifies choices in their lives.
